The eagle eyed amongst you will see that there has been a large
gap between the first and second post. This wasn't intended, but, as I state in
my profile, I am a mother and I find that things like a blog have to take the
back burner whilst my children and family take centre stage.
This doesn't mean that I haven't been busy
in all of that time, in fact quite the opposite. It is having the time to both
blog and bake (blake) that eludes me.
I enjoy my baking, and it has become so
important to me to be able to share my journey with others. That doesn't mean
that I want to show off, but rather display my work, and give other people
ideas, or even the desire to give something a go.
I am not a person who has been on lots of
courses, paying hundreds of pounds to work with the top and famous names of the
baking world, but am a person who is a kinesthetic learner - this means that I
can try things out and learn better by doing, rather than by being shown. This
means that some of my bakes inevitably don't always come out perfect the first
time, as some of the big names would believe you to be the case on TV. I
think it’s a big taboo to break, because this just isn’t the case in those
kitchens across the UK – the household names will make mistakes, we just aren’t
shown them.
If something comes out not as intended, this doesn’t mean that it’s
a failure; it is still a fantastic bake, and just wait until you try it out – I
bet it will taste fantastic!
That said, most of my bakes are from the heart and have meaning to
them – I bake what I like, and bake for the enjoyment of both myself and my
family and friends. Occasionally I’ll see something that just needs to be
attempted, but remember that baking is really something to savour and enjoy,
and not something to do to keep up with the Jones’.
I hope that you will enjoy the things I have to share with you. There
will be a mixture of past and present on here, and I will always try to include
commentary alongside my pictures.
Remember – a good baker is always looking for ideas and
inspiration, and it can be found anywhere.
